The West Avenue streetscape project is part of Miami Beach’s efforts to respond to sea-level rise. The project raises West Avenue and side streets 1-2’ feet, with improvements to non-vehicular transportation, including bicycle lanes, repaved sidewalks, landscaping, and street lighting. The landscaping efforts expand the tree canopy with native and drought-tolerant trees such as Live Oaks, Silver Buttonwoods, Palms, and Pigeon Plum trees. Low-maintenance ground cover and shrubs were also planted to enhance the greenscape of the street. The project is currently in Phase IV.
