This conceptual design was a second phase finalist for the Sandy Hook Memorial. Out of 188 submissions, our design was selected to move forward along with twelve others. The site is divided into three distinct areas, symbolizing the nuanced emotional journey of confronting loss, feeling grief, and finding hope. The design intent is to fill the irreplaceable loss of our children with a message of consolation, remembrance and hope. By filling these large openings in the forest with life sustaining elements like trees and water, we seek to heal the site as well as the community from this senseless act. Hope is promised by the trees by providing new life, and water, both speaking to the endless cycle of life.
