The West Avenue streetscape project is part of Miami Beach’s efforts to respond to sea-level rise. The project is raising West Avenue and side streets 1-2’ feet with improved non-vehicular transportation with bicycle lanes, repaved sidewalks, landscaping and street lighting. The landscaping efforts grow the tree canopy with native and drought tolerant trees such as Live Oaks, Silver Buttonwoods, Palms and Pidgeon Plum trees. Low-maintenance ground cover and shrubs were also planted to enhance the greenscape of the street. The project is currently in Phase IV.
